A meeting was held between the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chinese Prime Minister, during which an agreement was reached to strengthen Pakistan-China trade relations.
According to Express News, the meeting took place as the Chinese Prime Minister arrived in Pakistan to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed expanding trade ties and agreed on joint efforts for regional peace and stability.
Speaker of the National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq, expressed that hosting the SCO summit is an honor for Pakistan, stating that China is a reliable and sincere friend. He emphasized Pakistan’s pride in its everlasting friendship with China.
Ayaz Sadiq mentioned that the SCO summit would promote regional cooperation and strengthen stability. He affirmed the importance Pakistan places on the SCO platform, stating that the summit would enhance Pakistan’s positive image globally.
The two nations will work towards regional development through the SCO.
He further noted that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects hold special significance for both countries and highlighted the vast investment opportunities available in various sectors within Pakistan. He also stressed the need to enhance educational and scientific cooperation.
The two also discussed the importance of joint projects in the energy sector.
The Speaker remarked that cooperation in technology and the digital economy would greatly benefit the Pakistani populace.
He reiterated that China is a strategic partner for Pakistan, and cooperation between the two countries will be further enhanced in the future.
Ayaz Sadiq stated that cooperation at the parliamentary level between Pakistan and China would be increased, with plans to promote exchanges of parliamentary delegations.
The meeting also resulted in an agreement to enhance links between the National Assembly and the Chinese Parliament.
Ayaz Sadiq concluded that the recent visit of the Chinese Prime Minister to Pakistan would prove to be an important step in further stabilizing bilateral relations.
Pakistan and China strengthen ties with new agreements
Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across various sectors.
The signing ceremony took place following a formal welcome, where Premier Li was greeted with a floral reception and a 21-gun salute upon his arrival at Noor Khan Airbase.
One of the highlights of the visit was the virtual inauguration of the Gwadar International Airport, a significant milestone in the multi-billion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
"The completion of Gwadar Airport is an important milestone," Premier Li remarked, commending the collaborative efforts of both nations in bringing the project to fruition.
Following the formalities at the Prime Minister's House, the two leaders engaged in delegation-level discussions, addressing a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global issues aimed at fortifying the strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China.
