J. Cole’s latest track Port Antonio has sparked widespread backlash after the rapper apologized to Kendrick Lamar over their past beef. The controversy dates back to the longstanding rivalry between Kendrick Lamar and Drake, during which J. Cole found himself inadvertently caught in the crossfire. Kendrick initially dissed both rappers, and J. Cole responded with his own retort, fueling the tension.

However, in Port Antonio, J. Cole expresses that he never intended to engage in a serious feud with Kendrick, clarifying that their beef wasn’t personal. Despite explaining that he prioritized friendship over competition, fans have criticized him for seemingly backing out of the competitive rap culture, which thrives on lyrical battles.

Adding to the drama, Cole also mentions Drake in the song, reaffirming his friendship with the Toronto rapper and advising him to move past his feud with Kendrick. Fans, however, are calling J. Cole’s actions weak, urging him to either admit defeat or prove his competitive edge in rap.

Drake’s sensitivity towards the situation has also played a part, with subliminal disses exchanged between the artists. Many fans feel Cole's decision to apologize rather than compete diminishes his status in the hip-hop world. Despite the backlash, J. Cole remains silent on the matter, as he often avoids public feuds and direct responses.
