Hiroshi Tanahashi, one of New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s (NJPW) most iconic figures, has announced his retirement at the age of 47. During the NJPW King of Pro-Wrestling event, Tanahashi confirmed that his final match will take place at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20 on January 4, 2026. 

With a career spanning over 25 years, Tanahashi, also known as "The Ace," has earned legendary status in the wrestling world. His numerous championship victories and contributions to NJPW have made him a global wrestling icon, despite never joining WWE.

Reflecting on his decision, Tanahashi stated he is ready to close this chapter after decades of success. In addition to his in-ring career, Tanahashi serves as the president of NJPW, where he is expected to remain involved after his retirement. 

The news has sparked widespread reaction from fans, many of whom are eager to see his final matches, including a potential reunion with AEW star Kenny Omega. Tanahashi’s final tour is expected to feature several historic bouts, with fans hoping for one last showdown against Kazuchika Okada, another NJPW legend.
