Peshawar cleanup on the cards

Strategy developed to rid provincial capital of pollution

Under the provincial government's public agenda, the district administration has developed a strategy to make Peshawar a clean city.

In the first phase, the public will be educated to dispose of waste only at designated spots, placing trash in designated areas and bins.

In this regard, Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram chaired an important meeting with WSSP officials, including CEO WSSP Yasir Ali Khan, along with other WSSP and Capital Metropolitan Government officers.

All relevant authorities have been instructed to immediately begin raising public awareness about cleanliness during the first phase.

This awareness campaign will involve traders and all stakeholders to ensure its success in making Peshawar a clean city.

The CD also appealed to the public to actively participate in the cleanliness drive and contribute to keeping Peshawar clean. Additionally, he instructed sanitation workers to further improve cleanliness efforts and perform their duties with honesty.

Peshawar is grappling with severe pollution issues that are affecting both the environment and the health of its residents. The city, once known for its fresh air and clean water, now faces escalating environmental challenges due to rapid urbanisation, industrial development, and population growth.

One of the most pressing problems is air pollution, which has reached alarming levels in recent years. Experts say the increasing number of vehicles on the roads, combined with poor fuel quality and inefficient engines, contributes significantly to the degradation of air quality.
