The Islamabad High Court (IHC) is scheduled to hear today (Friday) a petition seeking an order for the federal government to make the proposed constitutional amendment package public and seek people's feedback on it before its passage.
On Thursday, an IHC bench comprising Chief Justice Aamer Farooq removed objections to the plea, filed by former senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar.
The former PPP leader appeared before the court, along with his lawyer Mian Samiuddin Ahmed. The court assigned a number to the petition and directed that the plea be scheduled for hearing today.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Khokhar expressed his gratitude to Justice Aamer Farooq for removing office objections and admitting the petition.
He clarified that he is not seeking any directions regarding parliament in the petition, nor asking to prevent Parliament from exercising its right to legislate or amend the Constitution.
"Our concern is about ensuring that laws are not bulldozed in a single day and that transparency is maintained. Before passing the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the citizens of Pakistan were given the opportunity to express their opinions and provide suggestions.
"The petition submitted requests an eight-week consultation period with the public," he said.
