Govt launches direct credit system

The Punjab government has launched the "Direct Credit System" aimed at streamlining the distribution of welfare grants to workers.

The Worker Welfare Board Punjab will transfer welfare funds, such as marriage, death, education, and talent scholarships, directly into workers' bank accounts, completely eliminating the need for manual processes or human interference from submission to cheque issuance.

This digital system promises greater transparency and efficiency, expediting the grant process and ensuring that workers receive their dues without delays.

During the launch ceremony held at the Labour and Human Resource office in Township, Lahore, on Thursday, officials marked the distribution of over Rs6 billion in welfare grants. These grants had been pending for six years due to a shortage of funds. The issue of insufficient funding was resolved following an intervention by CM Maryam. Over the past four months, the Punjab government worked diligently to secure the necessary funds, leading to the successful distribution of the grants.

Speaking at the event, Khokhar announced, "Today, we are proud to distribute approximately 30,000 welfare grants that had been stuck due to financial constraints."
