Karachi’s temperature rises by 3.3°C, mercury could hit 39°C on Tuesday

Humidity is expected to remain between 30% and 40% during warm spell, which will help mitigate the situation

Karachi experienced a warmer day on Monday as hot north-western desert winds from Balochistan affected the weather. The temperature increased by 3.3°C from the previous day, reaching 37.5°C, while the humidity level remained at 45%.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz stated that temperatures could rise further, possibly exceeding 39°C on Tuesday and Wednesday. “The average temperature in Karachi for October is 35.6°C, but during this partial heatwave, it may rise by 3°C above average,” he said.

Sarfaraz added that the lower humidity levels would prevent extreme conditions. “Humidity is expected to remain between 30% and 40% during the heatwave, which will help mitigate the situation.”

He clarified that there is no likelihood of a full-fledged heatwave. “For a heatwave, temperatures need to exceed 40°C for three consecutive days, along with the suspension of sea breezes and humidity levels surpassing 60%,” the chief meteorologist explained.

Sarfaraz advised residents to avoid direct sunlight and stay in shaded areas, urging them to stay hydrated during the warm spell.
