Imran's sisters remanded in police custody

ISLAMABAD:

A trial court in Islamabad on Sunday remanded former prime minister Imran Khan's elder sisters—Aleema Khanum and Uzam Khanum—in police custody for one day in a terrorism case.

The duty judge, Azhar Nadeem, also ordered a parade for identification of over 100 other PTI workers, who were later sent to judicial custody.

Imran's septuagenarian sisters were rounded up along with over 100 PTI workers and supporters who were staging a protest in Islamabad in support of an independent judiciary on Saturday.

During these protests, PTI workers and supporters clashed with police and other law enforcing agencies personnel in different areas of the federal capital.

In his late night press talk, Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday stated that 564 individuals were arrested during PTI protests, including 11 plainclothes personnel from K-P police.

Imran's sisters were among the 105 people against whom a case was registered at Islamabad Kohsar Police station under the country's terrorism law.

On Sunday, all 105 accused were presented before Judge Azhar Nadeem in Islamabad Judicial Complex. The police requested a 20-day physical remand for Aleema, Uzma and PTI leader Asad Qaiser's brother, Adnan Khan.

They also requested the judicial remand of nine other female workers. The court reserved its decision on the physical remand, and later, while announcing the verdict, remanded Aleema and Uzma in police custody for one day.

The court also ordered that the remaining 103 PTI workers be sent to jail for an identification parade. The accused will be presented in the relevant anti-terrorism court today.
