Cop injured in PTI protest passes away

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident.

A policeman, who allegedly got injured during the PTI's Saturday protest in Islamabad, has succumbed to his injuries, the capital's police announced on Sunday.

In a statement posted on X, the Islamabad Police said "miscreants kept torturing [Abdul Hameed] Shah after abducting him" from Chungi No 26 where he was posted for law and order duty.

It further added that he was part of the Investigations Wing, and was a resident of Abbottabad. He joined the police force in 1988.

"He was due to retire in three months after completing his police service," the statement said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and expressed his sympathies over Shah's death "at the hands of PTI protesters".
