Elon Musk spoke for the first time at a Donald Trump rally, addressing a large audience in Butler, PA, and describing the upcoming election as a “must-win situation.”

Wearing a black Make America Great Again hat, Musk told the crowd, “As you can see, I am not just MAGA, I’m dark MAGA.”

This rally marked Trump’s first visit to Butler since surviving an assassination attempt there in July. Following the incident, Musk voiced his support for Trump, praising his reaction to the attack.

During his speech, Musk referenced this moment.

He said, “The true test of someone’s character is how they behave under fire. And we had one president who couldn’t climb a flight of stairs, and another who was fist bumping after getting shot. ‘Fight, fight, fight.’ Blood coming down the face.”

Musk added, “America is the home of the brave, and there’s no truer test than courage under fire.”

Musk has been using his social media platform, X, to advocate for Trump while issuing warnings about the potential election of Kamala Harris, often framing his statements in dramatic terms.

Musk has also engaged in promoting conspiracy theories and misinformation. After the assassination attempt, he accused mainstream media of spreading “propaganda” by minimizing the seriousness of the shooting, reposting initial headlines that covered the event but did not immediately label it as an assassination attempt. He neglected to mention that media outlets updated their stories as new facts emerged.

At the rally, Musk stated, “This is no ordinary election. The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech. They want to take away your right to bear arms. They want to take away your right to vote.”

Harris has pointed out that she is a gun owner and has criticized Trump’s claim that she aims to confiscate firearms as “continuous lying.” While she supports a ban on assault weapons, she refers to them as weapons of war.

Musk has also attempted to present himself as a defender of free speech. However, he has limited the accounts of users on X, including journalists, and has taken legal action against organizations like Media Matters for America for articles they published about ads on X appearing next to pro-Nazi content. Additionally, Musk’s platform has sued some advertisers who stopped placing ads on X after he backed an antisemitic conspiracy theory.

At the rally, Musk condemned California lawmakers for passing legislation that prevents local governments from enforcing voter ID laws. He said, “I still can’t believe that’s real.”
