Kesha has announced a bold 10-year plan aimed at reforming the music industry to prevent the exploitation of artists like herself. This initiative comes at a crucial time, as industry secrets are being revealed, particularly in light of recent controversies surrounding figures like Diddy.
In a revealing interview with Elle, Kesha shared her intention to dismantle harmful practices within the industry, stating, “The music industry should be f---ing terrified of me.” Drawing from her painful experiences with producer Dr. Luke, she emphasized the need for change, vowing to expose the “deep, dark secrets” that have plagued the industry for too long.
After releasing her final album with Kemosabe Records in 2023, Kesha established her own label, Kesha Records. Her mission is to ensure that future artists are not bound by exploitative contracts, especially those that claim perpetual ownership over their songs and likenesses. “I don’t believe in ownership in perpetuity of anyone, anything,” she asserted.
Kesha is particularly focused on empowering young female musicians, expressing, “I enjoy feeling my power, which hasn’t been available to me for a really long time.” To further her mission, she is collaborating with tech experts to develop a digital platform prioritizing artist safety and creativity.
As the music industry faces scrutiny over exploitation, Kesha’s plan is a significant statement advocating for systemic change and greater protection for artists.
