Mayor says will not let 'city of lights' slip into darkness

Mayor Murtaza Wahab stated on Thursday that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has begun the process of not only constructing roads but also repairing the streetlights. This process of providing streetlights will gradually continue across all seven districts of Karachi. The engineering department has been instructed to maintain the streetlights on 106 roads in Karachi and to ensure regular monitoring. Soon, the streetlights on the highways will also be converted to a solar panel system like the central office of KMC, to prevent them from turning off due to load shedding by K-Electric.

He said a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted regarding Karachi's infrastructure, roads, and streetlights.

He directed the Engineering Department to form teams that will visit the roads daily to keep the streetlights in working order. The streetlights on major roads in District South, including Ghalib Road, Marine Drive, Clifton Bridge, Mai Kolachi Road, MT Khan Road, MA Jinnah Road, Nishtar Road, Steel Bridge, and Jinnah Bridge Regent Plaza, have been fully restored.

Meanwhile, the restoration of streetlights on Liaquat Road, II Chundrigar Road and others is being carried out in phases. He remarked that the PPP is restoring the lights of Karachi, as the city's identity is its lights, which we will never let dim. He also stated that having illuminated streetlights will make it easier to control street crimes and improve traffic flow.
