Missing Adiala jailer dismissed from service

Three others also sacked following inquiry into a murder case

Four employees, including former Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram of Adiala Jail, have been dismissed from their positions. Punjab Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal issued the dismissal notification, stating that the officers were found guilty in an inquiry related to a murder at Adiala Jail.

The inquiry, prompted by the murder of a detainee in the cell for mentally ill prisoners on February 29, was ordered by the Inspector General of Prisons Punjab. The inquiry found seven employees, including the then-Deputy Superintendent Muhammad Akram, guilty of negligence in the incident.

As a result, Akram and three other officers, including an Assistant Superintendent, have been terminated. Following the inquiry, the competent authority issued show-cause notices to the employees on August 30, seeking their responses. The employees were also summoned for a personal hearing by the Director General of the Monitoring Directorate, Home Department. Notably, the deputy superintendent was absent during this hearing.

Based on the inquiry report, Muhammad Akram, the Officer In-Charge of the psychiatric ward, Assistant Superintendent Riyaz Khan and Warder Nasir Mehmood, who was in charge of the barracks, have been dismissed. Additionally, Warder Amir Abbas was also terminated. At the same time, Night Duty Officer Assistant Superintendent Mahmoodul Hassan received a two-year suspension and Head Warder Wajid Mahmood was penalised with a one-year suspension of service.
