He called upon the government to declare Sindh districts calamity-hit areas and devise a strategy for the rehabilitation of the flood victims as a top priority.

Nawaz Sharif was addressing a press conference at the Magsi House in Hyderabad after visiting the flood-hit areas in Sindh.
Reacting to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani's appeal to the foreign agencies to help, Nawaz Sharif stressed that government resources were adequate and there was no need for seeking help from foreign countries.
He said that the government should address the problems of victims promptly.
The PML-N chief lamented that the government had not made prior arrangements to deal with the crisis since the MET office predicted a flood.
Torrential monsoon rains have pounded southern Pakistan, triggering serious floods that have affected more than five million people.
The disaster has reportedly taken 199 lives and destroyed or damaged nearly one million houses, and flooded 4.2 million acres of land. This has prompted the government to call for support from the United Nations.

A sad state of affairs and yet another calamity to show us we need to correct our ways. May Allah swt show us the right path and bring love in to heart's of our leaders.

2010 floods 2011 flood are these strong warnings......are these signs of displeasure for our rulers....
To all our RICH polititions, please repatriate only 50% of your foreign holdings. It should assist in alleviating in the assistance of the flood victims. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
The Waderaz are not willing to spend a penny on their people and seek foreign AID $$ only only to fill their pockets.
GOD help those who help them self...........................
@Zain Kamran: There is a very basic difference between loan/foreign aid and disaster aid. During the last years of floods in Pakistan, appeals were made here in Australia by UN and World Vision and Red Cross for donations to help people in need. People donated as well, but after a few months a feature was run on the tellie about how the aid never reached the people who were suffering. When people and governments from abroad send help to any country in need simple decency and any concern for fellow country-men should force the government to use the money properly and put as little in their own pockets as possible. These are all empty slogans and hold no weight at all. Sharif and the like can say we don't need anyone's help for the greater national good, but ask the ones surrounded by water who have lost everything twice in two years and who have no one to help them. I was a student and amongst the people who donated money when Sharif called for it in the name of repaying the loans and saving bankruptcy... he is one of the many shameless leaders that our nation has been cursed with who have no regard of the responsibility that belies them as the people in government at different times. Their words are worthless as is their person.
Foreign aid is not the solution . A country which is spending more than half of its G D P on purchasing arm and ammunition and in paying salaries to army persons then how it deserves to get AID .Foreign aid is not the solution . A country which is spending more than half of its G D P on purchasing arm and ammunition and in paying salaries to army persons then how it deserves to get AID .
The funniest part is, his is the only province running on over draft
Is this why because you have brought all your foreign money into the country?
First start paying ur taxes and bring ur money back and then talk about not getting aid....
I wonder how much the largest political parties of the country are supporting the flood victims? Let them give hard numbers so the people of Pakistan can see who is patriotic and who is simply talking?
@Adnan Dhanani: i said ' i support him for this act ' (and for this act ONLY ) NOW from where does it look like if i am a die hard supporter/ fan of Nawaz sharif ? I MEANT, NAWAZ is right about NOT getting foreign aid ! Try to think before writing, idiot.
I wonder if those who are victims of the flood would agree with Naw? . Perhaps an enterprising journalist will do an article exposing how much (or how little) the political leaders personally donate to charities which help these flood victims. It would also be interesting to read an article which gives an accounting of what actually happens to the international donations for the flood victims -- how much of that actually goes to help the victims?
Pakistan is a beggar nation. Why should the international community support Pakistan when pakistanis themselves do not want to help each other. Truly, you are one of a kind. Pakistan is the best of the worst of mankind.
When it comes to poor people, we are suddenly reminded of qaumi ghairat. There is nothing wrong with accepting aid
We don't need forign aid since the billionair Nawaz sharif and Asif zardari the two richest people in Pakistan has decided to give tax and some zakat money this year
Ur foolish utterance in Zardari's opposition will only defame Pakistan further.
@ET i said taxes as well .... stop being the joke that you guys are
No need to bash and condemn Nawaz Sharif for this statement. We are the ones who alternately keep on electing these robber-barrons, tax cheats, and liars whether they belong to PPP, PML (all the factions including N), ANP, and even Maulana Diesel's JUI and multitudes of other parties. However, we should basically have no arguments with what Nawaz Sharif is saying, which is that we do not need other nations BHEEK for dealing with our natural calamities. Let's judge the fellow on the merit of his statement and not on the basis of whether we like him or not. If NS gets to serve as our PM again he will be ruling a much different and awake Pakistan than before. He is not much better than some others but then again he is not much worse than what we have seen recently. Keep your minds open, folks.
Mr. Sharif shall provide temporary rehabilitation to the affected people in his own lands in Punjab. There are many charities who will take responsibility to feed them until the life comes to normal in their own areas in Sind.
@ Zain: You support him eh? Yeah so whos gonna help these people? you or your beloved Nawaz Sharif? Atleast the aid UN and such organisations donate reach the affected people.
Only army and ngo,s are helping the victoms politicians are busy taking pictures
yeah mr. sharif why don't you sell some of your Raiwind estate to pay for these people's rehabilitation??? You know, some of your sprawling gardens mansions estate etc. Disgusting politicians - live like Kings, talk like Marie Antoinette's
I support Nawaz for this act. Truely. We are already in a debt of 28 billion dollars... and so we don't want an another pile of liability! we can do it!
For God sake Nawaz Sharif sahab stop giving political speeches!! what have u given to country till now?? Two times you were the Prime minister of Pakistan!! Your bank accounts are full you dont pay taxes!! From where you will bring billions of dollars to help these poor people!! you cant even control dengue virus in punjab at your own expenses and you at talking about helping flood victims without external aid!! wowwwwwww!!!
Why do our politicians say the right things only when they are out of power ??
