Prosecutors lecture police investigators on filing cases

Say flawed cases help in acquittals of actual culprits

HYDERABAD:

The Hyderabad district police chief organised a day-long workshop for investigation officers and head muharars or the officials that write down the complaints and FIRs in the daily register known as the roznamcha.

The session focused on improving investigations and correctly writing complaints or FIRs to avoid technical errors that could weaken the case and lead to the accused being acquitted. During the session, participants reviewed court decisions and identified flaws in various cases. The workshop highlighted investigation methods and their flaws.

Attendees were instructed on the importance of thorough investigations based on merit to avoid filing defective cases and ensure genuine offenders are brought to justice.

DSP Legal Hyderabad Ghulam Nabi Khosa urged officers to follow pending court cases correctly. He stressed the need for improved investigation quality during the workshop. He stated that show-cause notices will be issued to investigating officers found negligent, and departmental action will be taken against them. He emphasised that inadequate investigations often lead to true offenders' release, underscoring the necessity for diligent, effective case handling to ensure justice.
