QUETTA:

At least two individuals lost their lives and three others were wounded when gunmen attacked a police vehicle transporting prisoners in Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan, on Wednesday.

The attack targeted Nazar Muhammad Hijwani, a prisoner. Among the injured was police head constable Habibur Rehman, who later died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to two. The ambush also left three policemen injured.

In response to the attack, Hijwani's relatives and fellow tribesmen blocked the main Sindh-Balochistan highway, demanding the arrest of those responsible. The protest caused heavy traffic jam, with vehicles backed up on both sides of the highway.

Police quickly apprehended one of the attackers, while operations continue to track down the remaining suspects. Security measures have been heightened throughout the city to prevent further violence.

Head Constable Habibur Rehman's funeral was held at the Dera Murad Jamali police line, with officers and family members in attendance.

During the protest, demonstrators chanted slogans, calling for justice and prompt action against the attackers.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, denounced the attack and pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure peace in the area.

Just a week ago, a bomb blast targeted a police mobile in Quetta's Bhosa Mandi area along the Eastern Bypass and wounded 12 people, including two police officers.

Authorities suspect that the explosive device was planted in a motorcycle, according to Express News.
