Atlético Madrid defender Robin Le Normand has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury following a collision during the team's 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in LaLiga on Sunday, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Le Normand, 27, collided with Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni in the final minutes of the match, suffering a severe blow to the head.

He was assessed by specialists, who diagnosed a traumatic brain injury (TBI) with a subdural haematoma, Atlético said in a statement.

The incident occurred when both players jumped to challenge for a cross, resulting in a head clash.

Le Normand, a key figure in Atlético’s defense and a Spanish international, was seen walking off the pitch with the help of medical staff after the game was halted.

Subdural haematomas occur when blood collects between the brain and the skull, typically following head trauma.

Atlético Madrid stated that Le Normand’s recovery would follow the established protocols for brain injuries, though no timeline has been provided for his return to action. The club is set to face Benfica in a Champions League match in Portugal on Wednesday.
