Denmark's Ambassador Jakob Linulf on Tuesday discussed the assistance required by Pakistan for transition to green energy, building climate resilience, water conservation and biodiversity protection.
At a meeting with Coordinator to Prime Minister on Climate Change Romina Khurshid Alam, the Danish envoy highlighted his country's extensive experience in renewable energy and sustainable practices.
He emphasised the potential for knowledge sharing and technology transfer to Pakistan to achieve environmental sustainability and climate resilience goals.
He also underscored the ongoing and future collaborative initiatives aimed at tackling climate change challenges facing both the nations.
Speaking on the occasion, PM's climate aide Romina Khurshid underlined Pakistan's commitment to the global climate action through support to various initiatives being taken for the protection of oceans, biodiversity, water and energy resources.
She shared the government's vision and commitment to protecting its ocean waters from pollution, saying that preserving marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable practices along the country's extensive coastline was the top priority.
"Efforts are being made with the government, non-governmental organisations and corporate sector to follow the 'clean ocean agenda'," she remarked.
"Oceans are vital to our economy and environmental sustainability. The clean ocean agenda is a crucial step towards ensuring that marine resources are preserved for future generations and efforts are made with the support of various stakeholders to combat pollution."
Highlighting Pakistan's efforts for the protection of marine resources, particularly mangrove forests, Romina Khurshid told the ambassador that the increase in mangrove cover by 300% along the coastline was a significant milestone.
The effort has been globally lauded, which underscores the country's commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
The PM's coordinator appreciated Denmark's leadership in climate action and underlined the urgent need for support to Pakistan in adapting to the impact of climate change.
Both sides agreed on the necessity of enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, water management and climate resilience strategies.
The Danish ambassador and the PM's aide highlighted the urgent need for joint efforts to advocate equitable climate financing for the developing nations adversely affected by the growing intensity and frequency of climate change-triggered disasters, particularly floods, heat waves, cyclones and the shifting rainfall patterns.
"This meeting marks a pivotal step in strengthening partnership between Denmark and Pakistan," Romina Khurshid said. "Together we can create sustainable solutions that not only address our national challenges but also contribute to the global climate goals."
