Turkish influencer who married herself dies by suicide at age 26

Kubra Aykut, with over 1m TikTok followers and 200K on IG, openly shared her struggles with body image issues.

Kubra Aykut, a Turkish TikToker who gained widespread attention after marrying herself in a viral "wedding without a groom" video, has died after falling from the fifth floor of a luxury apartment in Istanbul, according to a report by Türkiye Today.

Before her death, Kubra Aykut had shared her struggles with weight loss on social media. "I lose a kilogram every day. I urgently need to gain weight," she wrote in her last post.

Kubra Aykut, who had over a million TikTok followers and 200,000 on Instagram, had been vocal about her battle with body image issues.

Investigations into the circumstances of her death are ongoing. A suicide note was found at the scene, in which Kubra expressed personal struggles.

“I jumped off my own free will. Because I don’t want to live anymore. Take good care of Fistik,” believed to be her pet, Aykut wrote. She continued, “I was good to everyone in my life, but I couldn’t be good to myself. In this life, be selfish. That way, you will be happy.”

“I’ve been struggling for days, but no one noticed. I’m leaving because I love myself and want to think about myself for once,” the note continued.

Kubra Aykut’s final TikTok video, which showed her cleaning her apartment, has alarmed her followers in the wake of her death.
