RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government has approved a substantial package worth Rs520 million to enhance winter tourism in the scenic regions of Murree and Galyat.

The projects aim to attract more visitors to the area during the winter season and improve the overall tourist experience.

A major part of this project will focus on ensuring road accessibility and safety in these regions, particularly by prioritising immediate snow removal and road expansion efforts in all Galyat areas. Additionally, measures will be taken to secure landslide-prone zones, which are particularly vulnerable during the winter months due to heavy snowfall and icy conditions.

The initiative also includes water supply projects and the construction of water storage tanks to tackle water scarcity, which has been a recurring issue for residents and tourists alike in these areas.

The responsibilities for executing these projects have been divided between several authorities to ensure smooth operations. The Murree district administration will oversee snow removal and road cleaning in areas that fall within the boundaries of Punjab. Similarly, the Galyat Development Authority will handle snow removal, road maintenance, and the provision of drinking water in the Galyat areas that fall within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

For road maintenance, the Murree district administration will be in charge of the roads connecting Punjab and Azad Kashmir to Galyat.
