In a move likely to disappoint fans, Ubisoft has announced a delay for its upcoming Assassin's Creed title, "Shadows." Originally scheduled for a November 15th release, the game will now launch on February 14, 2025.
According to Ubisoft, the delay is a result of two key factors. First, the company says it wants to dedicate additional time to polishing "Shadows" to ensure it delivers on its ambitious vision. Secondly, Ubisoft cites the underperformance of its recent "Star Wars Outlaws" title as a factor in the decision. "Star Wars Outlaws," released in August, did not meet sales expectations, prompting Ubisoft to reassess its release strategy.
With the delay, Ubisoft promises several changes for "Assassin's Creed Shadows." The game will now launch on Steam at the same time as other platforms, a departure from Ubisoft's recent approach. Additionally, the company is abandoning its traditional season pass model for "Shadows." Instead, all players will receive the game's first expansion for free as part of their pre-order.
Ubisoft is also facing financial challenges in the wake of "Star Wars Outlaws" performance. The company has lowered its net booking projections for the fiscal year and is undertaking a review of its development and release strategies.
