Children are increasingly facing mental health challenges like depression and anxiety due to excessive academic pressure, with many rushing from school to private tuitions and missing out on rest and play, says a senior officer from the Sindh Education and Literacy Department.
Rafia Javed Mallah, Director of Private Institutions. said despite claims of high teaching standards, many students turn to external tutoring, raising doubts about the schools' effectiveness.
To address these concerns, the Directorate has issued guidelines for schools. These include establishing in-house remedial programs to support struggling students, enhancing teacher-student interactions, and fostering a classroom atmosphere that encourages curiosity without fear.
Schools are also urged to balance academic rigor with students' physical and emotional well-being.
