Marvel Studios has released the first full trailer for Thunderbolts, set to hit theaters in May 2025. The trailer, initially shown at San Diego Comic-Con, introduces a new team of Marvel antiheroes, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko). The characters are brought together under the command of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) playing a central role, albeit with some tension as he is seen fighting against them at various points.
The trailer also introduces Lewis Pullman’s mysterious character, “Bob,” who is revealed to be Robbie Robertson, also known as The Sentry, a powerful figure capable of deflecting weapon fire with his bare skin. Fans are intrigued by the character’s vast abilities, described as having "the strength of a million exploding suns."
Director Jake Schreier’s Thunderbolts is expected to explore a darker side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), with a focus on morally ambiguous characters working on dangerous missions. David Harbour’s Red Guardian also adds comedic relief to the ensemble, reuniting with his fellow Black Widow co-star Yelena.
Marvel’s Thunderbolts is scheduled for a May 2025 release, with more details expected in the coming months as excitement builds for the next MCU team-up.
