Singer-songwriter Chappell Roan recently addressed her decision not to endorse any candidate in the 2024 presidential election, including Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite Harris’s campaign using Roan’s song “Femininomenon,” the 26-year-old artist explained her stance in an interview with The Guardian, stating, “There are so many things that I would want to change. So I don’t feel pressured to endorse someone.”
Roan, known for her openness about LGBTQ+ rights, sexuality, and mental health, expressed her broader frustrations with the U.S. government, noting, “I have so many issues with our government in every way.” She encouraged her fans to make informed voting decisions, adding, “There’s problems on both sides. I encourage people to use your critical thinking skills, use your vote — vote small, vote for what’s going on in your city.”
Roan, a vocal advocate for trans rights, also emphasized the need for trans people to make decisions about their own lives, saying, “They cannot have cis people making decisions for trans people, period.”
Her comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some fans criticizing her neutral stance. Despite this, Roan has remained consistent in her political views, turning down an invitation to perform at the White House during Pride Month, citing her desire for "liberty, justice, and freedom for all."
