Dengue cases continue to rise in Pindi

RAWALPINDI:

Four deaths due to dengue virus have been confirmed within a month in Rawalpindi.

The Health Department CEO, Dr Asif Arbab Niazi stated that most of the cases were reported in Dhaman Syedan and Chak Jalal Din. There are currently 100 patients under treatment in allied hospitals, with 300 beds available. In case of an emergency, the capacity can be expanded to accommodate 1,000 beds.

Speaking at a press conference at the Rawalpindi District Health Office alongside DHO, Dr Ehsan Ghani, the Health Department CEO further stated that dengue cases in Rawalpindi are lower compared to last year. He urged people to immediately get a blood CP test done if they show signs of fever.

He also reported that most patients have recovered. The total number of dengue patients this year have been 493, with two in critical condition. Dengue causes a reduction in platelet count in the body. The primary reason for the rise in dengue cases in Rawalpindi has been unexpected rains, which have contributed to the increase in mosquito breeding.

There has also been a rise in cases this month, with more cases reported from Kotha Kalan, Gulistan Colony, and surrounding areas. A staff of 1,500 people has now been deployed to search for dengue larvae and fogging is being carried out under SOPs in consultation with administrative officers.
