ISLAMABAD:

Chief Minister of Balochistan, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, praised the late Mir Hazar Khan Marri for his significant contributions to promoting peace and stability in the province during the launch of Ammar Masood's book, Mir Hazar Khan Marri: Muzahimat se Mufahimat Tak, at the Pak-China Centre in the federal capital.

The chief minister emphasised that Balochistan has a rich narrative that remains largely untold, and he believes this book will enlighten the younger generation about the province's history and the role of tribal leaders.

Bugti noted that a false narrative regarding Balochistan's accession to Pakistan has persisted, complicating its history. He announced the allocation of funds for the construction of a road in the Kohlu district, which will be named "Mir Hazar Khan Marri Road," honouring the legacy of the late leader.

In his address, Governor Balochistan Jafar Khan Mandokhail echoed the importance of reconciliation, highlighting that Mir Hazar Khan Marri exemplified this approach. He underscored his belief that reconciliation is vital for the progress and prosperity of both Balochistan and the country. The presence of Nawab Changez Khan Marri at the event illustrated local support for the reconciliation process.

Earlier, the chief minister said the province has long been the target of foreign conspiracies, resulting in detrimental consequences for both the conspirators and the local populace. A deliberate campaign has fostered animosity among Baloch youth, convincing them that their rights are being infringed upon and framing the state as their primary adversary.

"The sustainability of the Baloch sardari system relies on this divisive narrative, which positions Baloch individuals against the state. Reconciliation could dismantle the foundations of this feudal system. Ignorance and unemployment remain the biggest challenges for Baloch youth, leaving them susceptible to anti-state propaganda," he explained and added that despite decades of conflict, the majority of Baloch people have accepted the state's constitution. However, some sardars have pursued personal agendas through violence, causing immense harm to the community.

In his later years, Hazar Khan chose the path of reconciliation, which proved beneficial for himself, his region of Kohlu, the Baloch community, and Pakistan as a whole. His life serves as a powerful reminder that no militant group can surpass the authority of the state.

The key takeaway from Mir Hazar Khan's legacy is that to thrive in this country, one must embrace its constitution, honour its soil, and respect its martyrs.
