Diddy denied bail, sent to infamous jail that once held R. Kelly on sex trafficking charges

Diddy will remain at Metropolitan Detention Center, known for its violent conditions, following his not guilty plea.

Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, 54, has been denied bail and will be housed at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn following his arrest on sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges. 

Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday, with his lawyers offering a $50 million bail package and in-home detention. 

However, Judge Tarnofsky rejected the request, ordering the rapper to remain in pretrial detention.

The MDC, notorious for its harsh conditions, has been compared to "hell on earth" by inmates and legal professionals alike. 

The facility, which previously held disgraced figures like R. Kelly and Ghislaine Maxwell, has been plagued by violence, with reports of weekly stabbings and dire living conditions, including cockroach infestations, freezing temperatures, and overflowing toilets. Inmates have reported being subjected to constant lockdowns, unsanitary conditions, and neglect.

Combs’ legal team highlighted the facility’s appalling conditions, noting in a motion for bail that "several courts in this District have recognized that the conditions at Metropolitan Detention Center are not fit for pre-trial detention." 

The motion referenced incidents of inmate deaths and violence, including a recent murder inside the MDC.

Despite these circumstances, Combs will remain in pretrial detention as his legal team continues to fight the charges. He faces a potentially long and difficult road ahead in one of New York’s most infamous detention centers.
