Alongside a rising number of dengue virus cases, the spread of measures in Rawalpindi district is also quickly escalating with measles cases reaching 651 and dengue cases rising to 445. Additionally, two cases of the Congo virus have been reported.
On Wednesday alone, 30 confirmed dengue patients were admitted to local hospitals, prompting concern among health officials and the district administration. The surge in measles cases is particularly alarming.
In response, the health department has recommended banning half-sleeve shirts and knickers in schools and advises citizens to avoid wearing such clothing, especially during early mornings and after sunset. Residents are also urged to use mosquito repellent while sleeping indoors, keep pet water bowls clean, and change refrigerator and cooler water daily. Accumulation of standing water in lawns should be prevented, and anyone experiencing fever should consult a doctor immediately.
During a briefing to Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema, the Health Department reported that 2,721 cases of dengue larvae were discovered during search operations this year. Consequently, 777 houses and properties were sealed, and 2,174 properties were fined, totalling Rs13.8 million.
On Wednesday, 20 dengue patients were admitted from Potohar Town, five from Chaklala, two from the City, and one each from Gujar Khan, Cantt, and Kahuta.
The deputy commissioner has ordered immediate measles vaccinations for all children due to the rising number of cases.
