Governance is about responsibility, not luxury: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz

Addressing the Provincial Seerat-un-Nabi Conference, CM underscores significance of the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has emphasised that governance is not a luxury but a substantial burden of responsibilities.

In her address at the Provincial Seerat-un-Nabi Conference on Monday, Maryam stated, “We will be held accountable by Allah Almighty. I have the responsibility of the entire province of Punjab. If no one gets medicine, cheap bread and flour, and no cleanliness, I wonder what answer I will give to Allah Almighty.”

She highlighted the significant impact of nurturing young minds with the love for the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). She urged parents, especially mothers, to share stories of the Prophet’s (PBUH) life with their children at bedtime.

Reflecting on her family’s traditions, Maryam mentioned that both her late mother and grandfather were devout followers of the Prophet (PBUH). She noted that her family celebrates the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal with great reverence, highlighting its importance to her personally.

The Chief Minister underscored the significance of the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings on human rights, pointing out that the foundational principles of human rights were established in his Sermon of Hajjat-ul-Wida.

She described this sermon as a landmark manifesto that promotes respect for all individuals and prohibits discrimination, particularly against women.

She stressed that Islam grants women unparalleled rights and respect, citing the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings on treating women with kindness and respect.

Addressing concerns about educational inequality, she highlighted the need for equal opportunities for girls, aligning with the Prophet’s (PBUH) encouragement to seek knowledge wherever it may be found.

Reiterating her commitment to improving cleanliness and combating corruption, Maryam urged reflection on whether societal practices align with the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH) and prayed for the strength to serve the people effectively.
