Rumors regarding the supposed indictment of hip-hop artist Lil Tjay, also known as Tione Jayden Merritt, have been completely dismissed by his legal team.
On September 13, 2024, Lil Tjay’s lawyer, Dawn Florio, addressed the situation in an interview with AllHipHop. Florio confirmed that her client, Tione Jayden Merritt, had not been indicted and stated that the circulating rumors are entirely baseless.
The rumors began after FOX 5 aired images of suspected individuals involved in a gang-related indictment, consisting of 176 charges. During this broadcast, a mugshot of Lil Tjay was briefly shown, leading to speculation about his alleged involvement.
As mentioned earlier, the claims that the artist Lil Tjay had been indicted on criminal charges, which quickly spread across social media, were refuted by his attorney. Tjay’s legal representative, Dawn Florio, also noted that they were aware of several media outlets reporting the incorrect information.
Florio further urged news organizations to carefully verify facts before releasing stories, especially those based on rumors or unsupported claims.
Tione’s lawyer stressed that misinformation like this harms her client’s reputation and misleads the public.
A brief FOX 5 broadcast that displayed mugshots of alleged gang members tied to a 176-count indictment, including Lil Tjay, appears to have been inaccurate. Additionally, when the Bronx District Attorney announced the names of 20 defendants linked to the alleged Slaughtery or Slattery gang in August 2024, Tione’s name was notably absent.
