Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has requested a comprehensive plan to enhance the export of pink salt, an esteemed natural resource.

In a meeting held in Lahore, Nawaz directed that measures be taken to ban the export of raw pink salt, recognising its significant value to the country.

The chief minister also emphasised the importance of safeguarding mine workers, calling for improved safety protocols.

During the meeting, officials discussed the potential of leveraging modern technology to better explore and extract natural resources.

Furthermore, establishing a value-added industry for pink salt was a key topic of discussion.

The meeting's attendees included the Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bukhari, Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtarzaman, Principal Secretary Sajid Zafar Dal, and Secretary of Minerals Babar Aman Babar.

Earlier this year, Pakistan signed an agreement with the American firm Miracle Saltworks Collective Incorporation to enhance the value of Himalayan pink salt and boost its exports.

At the signing ceremony, former Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar praised the agreement as a landmark achievement for the nation's investment climate.

He highlighted that the $200 million investment underscores a robust vote of confidence in Pakistan’s economic policies and its investment-friendly environment.
