Nine terrorists arrested in multiple operations across Punjab

Intelligence-based operations in Punjab lead to arrest of nine terrorists, and disruption of potential terror plots.

Security forces in Punjab arrested nine terrorists during a series of intelligence-based operations across various cities, including Lahore, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad, according to a spokesperson for the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday.

Among the arrested terrorists were key operatives from militant groups such as Daesh and Fitan al-Khawarij.

The authorities also seized a significant amount of explosive materials, including two hand grenades, detonators, 26 safety fuses, 73 feet of wire, firearms, mobile phones, and cash.

The suspects were identified as Abdul Karim, Usman, Imran Siddiqui, Shani, Shaukat, Ahmad Khan, Shiraz Mehmood, Saeed Rehman, and Mustajab. Officials revealed that the terrorists were planning attacks to incite fear and panic among the public.

In addition to these arrests, 978 combing operations were conducted across Punjab this week, leading to the arrest of 78 suspects and questioning of over 34,000 individuals. The CTD reaffirmed its commitment to a "Safe Punjab" and its efforts to eradicate terrorism.

Just a week ago, CTD Punjab conducted 475 intelligence-based operations across various cities in the province, resulting in the arrest of 33 terrorists.

The arrested terrorists were reportedly planning to launch attacks aimed at spreading fear and chaos among the public.

Among the arrests, a dangerous militant from the banned group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar was apprehended in Lahore.

During the raids, the CTD seized a significant cache of explosives, including a suicide vest, two hand grenades, 26 detonators, ammunition, mobile phones, and cash. These items were believed to be intended for use in terrorist activities across the province.

Moroever, previously in a series of operations launched by CTD in August, a key operative of the Daesh terrorist group was apprehended in Faisalabad along with two other terrorists who were identified as Abdul Wahab, Saifullah, and Khurram Abbas.
