Karachi's traffic police have issued a diversion plan as the city hosts two chup tazia processions today, causing significant road closures and traffic rerouting.
Chup Tazia, which is regarded as the last procession of the mourning period that began in the month of Muharram. It is held in remembrance of Imam Askari's martyrdom.
The first procession, which departed from Nishtar Park at 6:30 am today, passed through MA Jinnah Road, Capri, and Saddar Dawakhana before concluding at Noor Bagh, Musafir Khana, in Moosa Lane at around 11 am.
To ensure the smooth flow of traffic and safety, several roads were closed and alternate routes designated.
MeanhileTraffic from Gurumandir Chowk has been diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road in Soldier Bazaar.
Vehicles from Nazimabad are being rerouted through Lasbela Chowk, while traffic from Liaquatabad is diverted to Teen Hatti, also heading towards Lasbela Chowk.
Additionally, those coming from Garden and heading to MA Jinnah Road are being redirected to Gul Plaza via Anklesaria Hospital.
The second chup tazia procession will commence from Rizvia Society at 1 pm, heading towards Imam Bargah Shah-E-Najaf on Martin Road.
As part of security measures, the stretch between Water Pump and Karimabad Flyover was closed. Altaf Hussain Barelvi Road, between Bara Board and Gujjar Nala Crossing, was also shut down.
Meanhile Traffic from Karimabad Chowk was diverted to Moosa Colony.
Both processions, which are held annually on the 8th of Rabi-ul-Awwal, are accompanied by tight security arrangements, with streets around the routes being closed to all traffic.
Commuters in Karachi have been advised to follow the specified diversions and plan their travel accordingly.
The processions are expected to conclude around 4 pm, with traffic resuming to normal after that.
