LAHORE:

A Lahore High Court division bench granted bail to a youth allegedly involved in ten death of six members of a family in a car accident in the Defence area.

The two-judge bench headed by Justice Shehbaz Rizvi granted bail to ten accused, Afnan, after hearing the arguments.

During the proceedings, the driver's lawyer argued that the allegations against his client had not been substantiated during the investigation.

He said the geo-fencing data collected from the site of the accident did not place the cited witnesses at the scene, challenging the credibility of their statements.

He implored the court that the suspect was a minor, as indicated in the investigation report, and that there was no direct connection between the statements of the witnesses and the charges against him. The lawyer contended that these factors warranted release on bail of the accused.

On the other hand, a law officer opposed the bail application, contending that there was substantial evidence that proved that the boy was guilty and requested the court to dismiss the bail plea.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the bench briefly reserved the decision and then granted bail to the applicant.

The six members of a family were killed in the car accident on November 12 last year. As per the police, Rafaqat Ali and his family were returning to their home in Shadab Colony on Ferozepur Road in two cars after meeting his daughter's in-laws when a car rammed into one of them near Defence Phase 7.

The victims were identified as Rukhsana (52), Anabia (3), four-months-old Huzaifa, Muhammad Hasnain (28), Sajjad (26) and Ayesha (22).
