LAHORE:

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) are considering a joint struggle to restore the constitution and democracy in the country.

On Wednesday, PTI Acting Central Punjab President and General Secretary Hamad Azhar met with Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ameerul-Azeem to deliberate on the ongoing political crisis and what they described as an "undeclared martial law."

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the current political climate and explored the possibility of a united front to push back against what they view as rising authoritarianism.

They emphasised the need for all democratic forces to unite and play their role in ending the alleged dictatorship.

Hamad Azhar stated that the PTI has planned nationwide protests to challenge what he called "ongoing oppression, violence, and fascism." He reiterated the party's demand for the return of the "stolen mandate" and called for the release of PTI founder Imran Khan, as well as other imprisoned party leaders and political workers.

Azhar condemned the government's crackdown on PTI leaders, linking it to the success of recent public rallies organised by the party.

He accused the government of panicking in response to PTI's popularity and launching a wave of arrests targeting the party's senior leadership.

Both PTI and JI appear to be laying the groundwork for a possible alliance.
