CM orders patrolling between checkpoints

Directing the authorities concerned to take indiscriminate action against criminals and anti-social elements, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that the police should be able to take proactive action without waiting for a crime to be committed.

Chairing a meeting on law and order, she said those involved in attacks on police checkpoints should be given such a stern response that they would dare to carry out an attack again. She the police should carry out patrolling between their checkpoints.

The chief minister approved a proposal to increase the number of provincial border security posts and directed the authorities to immediately conduct special training of the personnel posted there.

She also directed the relevant authorities to provide armoured personnel carriers (APC), bulletproof vehicles and jackets to the police.

She highlighted the need to strengthen and improve the border security posts besides restructuring and modernising the Border Military Police.

The chief minister directed the relevant authorities to install body cameras for police on duty and intensify a campaign to eliminate illegal arms from the province.

She was informed that a ban had been imposed on the use of social media and cameras by on-duty police personnel. The CM approved a grant of Rs1 billion for the police.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Standing Committee on Finance and Development (SCCFD) approved plans for the upgradation, construction and maintenance of border outposts in the Sargodha and Dera Ghazi Khan regions.

Chairing a meeting of the committee, the CM called for providing 444 clinic-on-wheels vans in 112 tehsils of the province. The mobile clinics will also have the ultrasound facility.

The committee approved a plan to establish the Punjab Film Fund, besides conversion of the Digital Communication Cell into the Strategic Communication Cell in the department of environment and climate change.

It also approved the construction of a motorway interchange at the entrance of the Quaid-i-Azam Business Park in Sheikhupura and a flyover at Chanda Qila Chowk in Gujranwala.

The SCCFD agreed to include the Narowal Kartarpur Corridor Scheme in the ADP.
