Four perish as jeep plunges into ravine
A deadly traffic accident in the Khadang area of the Chakesar tehsil in Shangla resulted in the deaths of four people and left two injured.
A jeep was traveling from Khadang to Chakesar when its driver lost control, and the vehicle plunged into a deep ravine in the Leku Kamar area.
Out of the six passengers, four were killed and two were injured. The deceased included Jamshed Ali, son of Elif Syed, Imran, son of Shams-ul-Haq, Izzat Syed, and Umar Farooq.
The local police and rescue teams transferred the injured to a nearby hospital. The incident occurred on the Chakesar-Khadang link road late at night between Monday and Tuesday.
The jeep, involved in the accident, split into three pieces as it fell several hundred. Traffic accidents on the link roads of Shangla have become common due to construction without following proper engineering principles.
Various political and social circles expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
In May of 2024, eight members of a family, including women and children, tragically lost their lives after their jeep, enroute to Pagorai, plunged into a hundred-foot-deep ravine in Shangla, officials said at the time.
Shangla District Police Officer Imran Khan and Rescue 1122 spokesperson Rasool Khan Sharif confirmed the fatal accident and the casualties.
He said the deceased included four women and three children. The bodies were transported to the district headquarters hospital in Alpuri for further procedures. He explained that the family was returning home after visiting a relative in Belay Baba when the accident occurred.
Seven victims died on the spot, while a child passed away enroute to the hospital. The bodies were handed over to their relatives after the completion of the medicolegal formalities, Sharif added.
