Matthew Knowles, Beyoncé’s father, has addressed the snub of her country album Cowboy Carter at the 2024 CMA Awards. Despite the album's success, including spending four weeks at the top of Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, Beyoncé did not receive any nominations. Her album had been expected to qualify for categories such as Album of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

In an interview with TMZ, Matthew Knowles expressed his disappointment but stated that he was "not entirely surprised." He commented, “There’s more white people in America and unfortunately they don’t vote based on ability and achievements, it’s still sometimes a white and black thing.” Knowles further clarified that he was not accusing CMA voters of being racist but noted that the snub "speaks for itself."

Matthew Knowles also reflected on the broader cultural context, stating that the decision-makers at the CMAs are reflecting a negative stance towards Beyoncé. He tied this to what he views as a lack of cultural acceptance in America, saying, “In America, there’s no accountability for people not being accepting of other cultures.”

The 58th Annual CMA Awards will be broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on November 20 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC, with a next-day release on Hulu.
