Adrian Newey is joining Aston Martin on a salary that could reach £30m, including bonuses and add-ons. This is a substantial sum for an engineer, but Newey is not just any engineer.

That figure is believed to surpass the earnings of most drivers, except for Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton, and Lando Norris. When compared to other British sports figures, Newey would be behind Anthony Joshua, Rory McIlroy, and Tyson Fury, as reported by Forbes.

It's an eye-popping amount, but many would say the 65-year-old is worth every bit of it.

Newey is widely considered the greatest car designer in F1 history. His achievements speak volumes, with 13 drivers' championships and 12 constructors' titles spread across three different teams during a career in F1 that took off in 1988.

However, Newey's reputation goes beyond the statistics. It’s about the innovative thinking behind those numbers. He is seen as a visionary in multiple ways.

It’s these unique attributes that Aston Martin’s owner, Lawrence Stroll, has invested in, believing that Newey’s expertise will be the final touch to an already significant investment in the team’s facilities and personnel, amounting to hundreds of millions.

Stroll is confident that Newey is the key to transforming his team into championship contenders within a few years.

Though costly, the decision is based on years of proven success. In F1, Newey represents the closest thing to a guarantee of victory.

On a technical level, his talent lies in deciphering complex regulations to find the key to maximizing performance, with aerodynamics being the primary factor in achieving success in F1.
