Zardari, Azad call for religious harmony

ISLAMABAD:

President Asif Ali Zardari and Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad exchanged views on eradication of terrorism and sectarianism from the country.

According to a statement released from the President House, the president and the religious scholar discussed the promotion of religious harmony and 'Pegham-e-Pakistan'.

President Zardari said there is a dire need for the inter-sects, inter-faiths harmony as well as unity among Ummah in the country. He urged that all the religious scholars play their role by promoting religious harmony from pulpits.

He said, "We all have to play important role in the given situation of the country."

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad said the entire nation is standing along with the armed forces and security institutions for the elimination of terrorism and extremism. He termed the passage of 'Khatam-e-Nabuwat' bill on September 7, 1974 a historic act.

He said the narrative of 'Paigham-e-Pakistan' declares terrorism, extremism and sectarianism as prohibited.
