HYDERABAD:

A five-year-old child lost her life and 10 other children fell ill with cramps and became unconscious after drinking water from a hand pump in village Karam Marri in Sanghar district on Saturday.

Two daughters of Abdul Ghaffar Marri, seven years old Aneeta and five years old Tania, became critically ill after consuming poisonous water from that pump. Both of them were shifted to the civil hospital where Tania died.

Nine other children drank from the same pump and they all were hospitalised. Dr Abid Hussain at the district's civil hospital informed that the symptoms of diarrhea exist in all the sick children.

According to father of the deceased child, rainwater has accumulated on land in all over his village.

He believed that pesticides and stagnant rainwater have poisoned the aquifers, making water drawn from the hand pump harmful for humans.
