Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield deliver powerful performances in 'We Live in Time' at TIFF 2024

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) witnessed a powerful debut of A24's "We Live in Time," starring Oscar nominees Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. The film, a poignant cancer drama directed by John Crowley, explores a couple's journey through love and loss.

During the post-screening Q&A, Pugh shared the intensity of filming a 15-minute birthing scene multiple times. Garfield, whose mother passed away from cancer, spoke about the emotional weight of portraying a character experiencing a loved one's illness. He praised the script's precision and credited his connection with Pugh for allowing them to delve into the story's authenticity.
 

Crowley, reuniting with Garfield after their 2007 collaboration "Boy A," highlighted Garfield's growth as an actor and his ability to navigate complex emotions with humor and relatability. The film's nonlinear narrative, depicting the couple's relationship from their first encounter to facing Almut's (Pugh) cancer diagnosis, received praise for its emotional depth.

Pugh, reflecting on her experience, described the joy of collaborating with Crowley and Garfield, even during the film's most challenging scenes. Despite previous reports of difficulties on other projects, Pugh expressed her love for every moment on "We Live in Time."

"We Live in Time" is set for a limited theatrical release in the United States on Oct. 11, promising to resonate with audiences through its exploration of love, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit.
