LAHORE:

A significant progress has been made in the importation of new animals for the Lahore Safari Zoo.

Arrangements are in place to import nine giraffes to the Safari Zoo. These giraffes are expected to arrive in Lahore from Dubai next month.

Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb's efforts to import animals for the Lahore Zoo Safari have been successful.

The Punjab Wildlife Department has completed and submitted all necessary documentation and regulations.

The nine giraffes will arrive in Lahore from Dubai during the first week of October. According to the Wildlife Department, the shipment will include three male giraffes and six female giraffes from the UAE.

The Punjab government has allocated Rs130.5 million in funds for this project. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb facilitated negotiations with federal departments and relevant international agencies.

In October 2023, the caretaker government approved the import of the animals.

The import case for the giraffes had been pending with the Federal Department of Climate Change and international agencies. Progress was made in this case due to Maryam Aurangzeb's intervention. Efforts are also underway to import three elephants and two rhinos for the Lahore Zoo Safari.

Meanwhile, a combing operation for the protection and rehabilitation of wildlife is ongoing.
