Kayani appreciates General Petraeus appointment

Ashfaq Parvez Kayani welcomed the appointment of General David Petraeus as the commander of American forces in Afghanistan.

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani welcomed the appointment of General David Petraeus as the commander of American forces in Afghanistan.

He addressed the officers during his visit to the Command and Staff College Quetta while expressing hope that peace and stability will be restored in Afghanistan. He called upon stakeholders in Afghanistan to synergize their efforts towards achievement of common strategic objectives.

General Kayani also said that support and backing of the people of South Waziristan is critical in the fight against militancy in the tribal areas.

This is important because locals are always well aware of the ground realities and their support can easily help in locating prime targets.
Muhammad Bilal Iftikhar Khan | 14 years ago | Reply During Mac Crystal era both Kunar and Nouristan were left on mercy of Taliban. which effected very negatively on Pakistan as when ever we broke back bone of TTP in Bajor and Mohmand they had kunar and Nouristan to retreat and re group. The first thing which we saw after removal of Mac Crystal was Operation in Kunar . I think Mac Crystal by nature was a bully. Patriace seems to be a realist general and I hope things will be better for both Afghans and Pakistan now because a new man in command is a better man who understands things pragmatically.
