Two doctors were injured when attendants of a 70-year-old female patient attacked them in the emergency department of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) on Wednesday night.
The elderly patient, who had been receiving treatment for diarrhea, was discharged after her medical needs were addressed. However, two of her angry attendants attacked the doctors, resulting in injuries to two medics.
The doctors sought help from local police, but they allegedly refused to register FIR. The doctors then staged a symbolic protest in the hospital's emergency ward late into the night.
During the protest, the doctors highlighted the growing concern over the lack of security at JPMC and called for improved safety measures.
They demanded legal action against the attackers and an FIR to be registered.
The doctors warned that if their demands were not met, they would consider a boycott and more protests.
Police gave in to the protesting doctors and registered an FIR.
It may be recalled that approximately 25 people, including attendants and family members, entered the Gynae Emergency with a patient during the morning hours on February 21.
The doctors on duty were subjected to harassment and verbal abuse.
The incident, recorded in a video that has widely been shared on social media, depicted an unruly mob threatening and yelling at the doctors.
