Instagram has introduced a new feature allowing users to comment on Instagram stories, offering a more public way to interact with the temporary posts.
Previously, responses to stories were limited to private messages visible only to the user.
Now, users who follow each other can leave comments on Stories for up to 24 hours.
The option to comment on stories will be available to users who follow the poster and are followed back.
Instagram spokesperson Emily Norfolk confirmed that users will have the ability to turn comments on or off for each story.
However, it remains unclear whether the comments will be archived once the Story expires.
This update follows Instagram's continued efforts to enhance user engagement through features like Reels and Stories.
Earlier this summer, Instagram introduced disappearing “notes” to grid posts and Reels, allowing users to leave comments that expire after three days.
In addition, Instagram announced today that some post likes will now appear as floating hearts, similar to those in disappearing notes, to give prominence to interactions from friends.
