Sabrina Carpenter beats Travis Scott for No. 1 Billboard spot, matches The Beatles' historic record

The pop and rap worlds collided as Sabrina Carpenter and Travis Scott faced off in a highly anticipated Billboard 200 chart battle.

The coincidental release of Carpenter’s album ‘Short n’ Sweet’ and Scott’s re-released mixtape ‘Days Before Rodeo’ fueled an intense online rivalry between their fan bases, akin to the ferocity of rap battles. 

In the end, Carpenter not only claimed the No. 1 spot but also joined an exclusive club alongside The Beatles, achieving a historic milestone.

As Billboard announced the results, Travis Scott’s ‘Days Before Rodeo’ debuted at No. 2, falling just short with over 361,000 equivalent album units. 

Meanwhile, Carpenter took the top spot with her first No. 1 album, ‘Short n’ Sweet’, earning 362,000 units during the week ending August 29. 

The chart battle, one of the closest in recent memory, marked a significant achievement for both artists, with Scott claiming the fourth-largest debut of the year and the biggest week for any rap album.

In addition to her Billboard 200 victory, Carpenter also matched a record previously held by The Beatles.

She became the second act and first soloist to have her first three top-five hits on the Hot 100 simultaneously. Currently, ‘Taste’ sits at No. 2, ‘Please Please Please’ at No. 3, and ‘Espresso’ at No. 4, all from her latest album.

The Beatles first achieved this feat in 1964 with ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’, ‘She Loves You’, and ‘Please Please Me’.

Despite falling short of the No. 1 spot, Scott's ‘Days Before Rodeo’ still made waves, boasting the second-largest sales week for a rap album in 2024 with 331,000 units from album sales alone.

 While Scott didn’t claim the top title, his fans celebrated the rapper’s remarkable success in the close competition.
