SHC riles NADRA for errors that hurt people

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday gave the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) 15 days to review the records of retired railways employee Muhammad Hussain. The ruling was given by a two judge SHC bench comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Amjad Ali Sahito while hearing a petition challenging the blockage of Hussain's National Identity Card (NIC).

The petitioner's counsel argued that his client's NIC had been blocked in both 2021 and 2022. NADRA's claim that six people were listed in Hussain's family tree was disputed by the petitioner, who claimed not to recognise these people and had submitted an affidavit to this effect. The blockage of his NIC had led to the withholding of his pension.

Justice Sahito expressed frustration with NADRA's handling of the situation, criticising the authority for its errors that have adversely affected the public.
