Donald Trump, the twice-impeached former president, is facing federal and state charges for allegedly trying to interfere with the 2020 presidential election. However, Trump believes his actions were justified and claims he had "every right" to meddle in the race.

In an interview on Fox News' Life, Liberty & Levin, Trump said, "It's so crazy, that my poll numbers go up. Whoever heard you get indicted for interfering with a presidential election, where you have every right to do it, you get indicted, and your poll numbers go up."

Trump was indicted on four criminal counts by a federal grand jury investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot and the 2020 election. The state of Georgia also presented a 41-count indictment against Trump and 18 other defendants related to the case.

Trump's comments come as he faces a tough re-election campaign against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris. Harris' campaign responded to Trump's interview, saying, "Everything Donald Trump has promised on the campaign trail — from 'terminating' the Constitution, to imprisoning his political opponents and promising to rule as a dictator on 'day one' — makes it clear that he believes he is above the law."
