Punjab police prevent terrorist attack on Mianwali checkpoint

Punjab police have successfully repelled an attack by suspected terrorists on a checkpoint in Mianwali, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Monday.

The attackers, identified as members of a terrorist group referred to as "Khawarij," launched their assault under the cover of darkness at a police post near the town of Isa Khel.

The officers stationed at the checkpoint responded decisively, forcing the group of 14 militants to flee.

"Praise to the brave officers who displayed outstanding professionalism and bravery," said Naqvi in a statement, commending the police for their quick and effective response.

The minister further noted that Punjab police have consistently acted as a strong bulwark in the ongoing fight against terrorism, a role that deserves recognition.

Pakistan suffered one its deadliest weeks in years, when more than 70 people were killed in the coordinated attacks across Balochistan, where terrorists targeted police stations, railway lines and highways.

In a separate attack the same week a roadside bomb killed four people and wounded 12 others in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province's North Waziristan district.

A Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Ameer and his relatives, were also abducted in K-P's Dera Ismail Khan district, last month and were safely released, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
